Frilly by Lily
London born jewellery designer Lily McCallin founded Frilly By Lily in 2006. Now based in her studio overlooking the river Lea, Lily spends her days designing and making fine jewellery collections and bespoke pieces using Perspex, gemstones, gold and silver. What excites and inspires Lily most is rich colour. Vibrant gemstones play a central part in her work, as does light reflecting Perspex. She is driven to create clever ways to showcase colour; often sculpting precious metals to create different textures, finishes and settings. Frilly By Lily was born in 2006, when Lily developed a passion for collecting and reworking discarded vintage and costume jewellery into modern wearable items. For years she would give new life to odd and broken costume jewellery. This hobby quickly became an obsession and a full time job and over time Lily developed a desire to create jewellery that she could design and make from scratch. Lily attended silversmithing classes at Morley College, but most of Lilys jewellery making skills are self taught. Plenty of blood, sweat and tears have gone into learning how to make jewellery the hard way. Lily studied for her degree in Graphic Design at Falmouth College of Arts. She takes pride in using these skills for her branding, packaging and other printed material. How the jewellery is made: they work in a variety of ways, depending on what suits the design itself; most of their works are made either by hand or with the use of 3D printing technology; they then employ the specialist skills of casters and stone setters to reproduce their work in small batches. Sustainability: Frilly By Lily was born from a passion to create beautiful things that are made under fair working conditions and with sensitivity to the environment; they use fairtrade gold for all of their jewellery upon customer request, and their future collections (new designs from September 2016) will be solely fairtrade gold; their diamonds and gemstones are sourced from conscientious suppliers upon customer request and future collections (new designs from September 2016) will be based around a fully traceable diamond and gemstone supply chain; currently all of their jewellery is made using metals that are are 50% recycled on average (customers can also request for their items to be made using 100% recycled gold and silver); as everything is manufactured and assembled in London and Birmingham, they are supporting their home economy and their carbon footprint is minimal. Bespoke Jewellery Service: they always encourage customers to commission bespoke pieces and take pride in providing customer service that is approachable and reliable.
