Bird

Brooklyn’s first fashion destination, leading the fashion-pack across the river since 1999. Bird has been voted Best Women’s Boutique in New York City by New York Magazine, Top Visionary Boutique in the United States by Lucky Magazine and has received extensive coverage in The New York Times. The original Bird store opened on 7th Avenue in Park Slope in 1999. The second location on Smith Street in Cobble Hill opened in 2006. The third and largest location, designed by Norwegian architect Ole Sondresen, opened on Grand Street in Williamsburg in 2009 and is the first LEED-certified retail store in New York City. Bird maintained strict sustainability and green-building standards throughout construction and was consequently awarded the coveted LEED-CI Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The Williamsburg store also features rotating exhibits by emerging artists. Bird owner Jen Mankins got her start in fashion working as an assistant buyer for Barneys New York and later became the head buyer for Steven Alan. Inspired by the independent designers she worked with, she co-founded the women’s fashion label Charlotte Corday before returning to retail and creating Bird. She travels for inspiration, seeking out the best fashion collections and design objects. Jen is obsessed with color, prints, textures, textiles and loves wearing head-to-toe tiedye. She is a self-described failed minimalist; mix-and-match is her maxim.

Botanical Paperworks

Leading producer of plantable seed paper, plantable wedding invitations, seed paper favors and promotional products. You'll find thousands of eco-friendly paper products, all with a seed paper component. Seed paper from Botanical PaperWorks is made with post-consumer material, meaning that no new fibers were used in the production of this paper. And because when the paper itself is planted, it composts away leaving only wildflowers (or herbs, or vegetables) and no waste. Botanical PaperWorks is the world-leading producer of eco-friendly seed paper products that grow into flowers, herbs or vegetables. They manufacture and design stationery, wedding invitations, favors, memorial products and corporate promotional products made from paper embedded with seeds. When planted in soil, the paper will biodegrade and the seeds will grow, leaving no waste behind. As a Canadian company, their seed paper isn’t allowed to leave the country without the seal of approval from regulatory bodies. Each batch of seed is tested for purity to ensure that the seeds are free of noxious weeds and invasive species.
