Bella Freud

Fashion designer Bella Freud was born in London and studied in Rome. She is renowned for her signature jumpers Je t’aime Jane, Ginsberg is God and 1970. Fans of Bella Freud include Alexa Chung, Laura Bailey, Kate Moss and Alison Mosshart. Bella launched her eponymous label in 1990. Her first collection featured sexy knitted dresses in bookish colours, mini tailored suits and a small selection of shoes and bags. Bella went on to win Most Innovative Designer at the London Fashion Awards in 1991 and produced a Super 8 short film ‘Day at the Races’ as an alternative to a fashion show. Bella’s second film ‘More Clothes’ directed by Kate Garner was shot on 35mm film and showcased the SS 1992 collection. Seasonal catwalk shows followed, then in 1999 Bella began her fashion film collaboration with John Malkovich, co writing and producing three short films: Strap Hanging, Lady Behave, and Hideous Man. In 2001 Bella also collaborated with rock icon Anita Pallenberg on Memo, a limited edition magazine featuring the AW2000 collection, inspired by the film Performance. From March 2000 to 2003 Bella consulted for British heritage brand Jaeger, rejuvenating their image and bringing British dressing to a younger audience. Between 2004 and 2006 Bella was appointed head of womenswear for the relaunch of Biba. She also consulted for Miss Selfridge, designing three capsule collections. 2010 saw Bella collaborating with friend and muse Susie Bick on a capsule collection inspired by Susie’s own ingenious style. In 2011 Bella co-wrote an experimental short film Submission with Bafta winning director Martina Amati. The performers wore knitted leotards and dresses featuring illustrations of shoes by Christian Louboutin. In 2012 Bella designed two capsule collections for Barbour. Bella also developed her own scented candle range, which launched exclusively with Space NK. Bella’s love of film continued and in 2013 she art directed the short film Je t'ecoute, produced by Laura Bailey starring Lara Stone, which screened at White Cube Bermondsey. Bella’s directorial debut ‘Girl Boils Egg’ is a two minute film featuring Punk, commissioned by Nick Knight for SHOWstudio.com. 2013 also saw the development of the RTW collections and expansion into the beauty market. The Bella Freud Eau de Parfum collection was launched in 2014 and has gained a cult following.

Bergdorf Goodman

Luxury goods department store based on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. The company was founded in 1899 by Herman Bergdorf and was later owned and managed by Edwin Goodman, and later his son Andrew Goodman. Today, Bergdorf operates from two stores situated across the street from each other at Fifth Avenue between 57th and 58th streets. Bergdorf Goodman's main store, which opened at its current location in 1928, is located on the west side of Fifth Avenue. A separate men's store, established in 1990, is located on the east side of Fifth Avenue, directly across the street. Bergdorf is a subsidiary of Neiman Marcus, which is owned by the private equity firms TPG Capital and Warburg Pincus.

Founded in 1991 (initially launched with just 8 menswear products); in 1992 they launched womenswear and Mini Boden (children's wear) followed in 1996. In 2007 they launched Baby Boden and they also launched in Germany. On average they ship 12,500 parcels per day and they emply over 800 hard-working staff. Their teen range, 'Johnnie b', was launched in February 2010. They have a dedicated team committed to ethical trade and, through continuing efforts each year, they strive to make their business ever more ethically aware and responsible. They are longstanding members of the Ethical Trading Initiative and, for them, it's not enough to simply comply with legal requirements; they are constantly looking for new ways to improve their relationships with their suppliers and support their employees even further.They work with suppliers all over the world: China, India, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Romania, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Thailand, Vietnam, Portugal, Taiwan, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Morocco, Spain, Italy and the UK. They always aim to work with suppliers and factories that share their responsibilities and values. They may be a mail order company, and they may send out lots of catalogues each year, but they do try to ensure that they aren't harming the environment. The paper used for their catalogues and offer cards is a recyclable and renewable product, made using wood sourced from sustainably managed forests and chlorine-free, bleached pulp. Wherever it is possible, they ensure that their packaging is recyclable and is made from recycled materials too. Just to prove that they haven't got anything against trees as a species, they joined forces with Rainforest Concern a few years back to help preserve and maintain 1300 acres of rainforest in Colombia and Ecuador.
